Start where you are

I started at my grandparents farm, where I lived together with my family. Located in a small village about 45 minutes away from Frankfurt, Germany. It was nothing but the best place to grow up and develop my skills.

In 2020 I decided it was time for a new start – in a different country. Again in a small village not too far away from a big city. In Catskill, NY I set up my woodshop and a studio in an old warehouse right in the heart of the village.

Use what you have

When I was a kid I used my hands, my creativity, some tools and just scrap wood to build treehouses. That didn’t really change much. But instead of using scrap wood I mostly work with local hardwoods, steel and concrete for my creations today. Of course tools and machinery are more professional than they were back then. But the hands are still the same and so is the creativity!

Do what you can

I always loved to create things. During my apprenticeship as a carpenter and my civil engineering studies I quickly realized it had to be something more creative. And that’s when I had the idea for SPwoodenworks. After winning a creativity contest in 2011 I finally started my own business and carry out the first projects for clients. And quickly realized that this is exactly what I wanted to do.

Looking back, I consider it a gift that I taught myself to a large extent my fine feeling for wood, its structure and its properties. I truly believe that this is the best way to learn how to create unique pieces of furniture which are timeless and made to last.
